Studio Notes December — A Longer Reflection
Hi everyone,
As we settle into the final stretch of the year, the studio has taken on that familiar mix of quiet focus and gentle momentum. I’ve been moving between paintings, textiles, and sculptural pieces, letting each material tell me where it wants to go. My recent Instagram posts have only captured fragments of what’s happening here — little windows into the process — so I wanted to share a fuller view with you.
On the painting easel, three new works are nearing the point where l can feel myself exhale. These pieces began 12 months ago with simple graphite lines — gestures that pause, smudges, and they continued recently, almost instinctively. There’s a moment when you realise you’re no longer questioning the line; you’re simply following where it wants to lead. After years of showing up to the canvas, there’s a kind of quiet knowing that takes over. These works will soon find their way into the world, and you can follow their evolution in the Artwork section under Abstract Painting on my website.
My textile table has been its own world of fibres, offcuts, vintage fragments, and hand-stitched moments. Many of you responded beautifully to my recent post about the layered histories in these materials — threads gathered from French markets, remnants from women who crafted through hardship, and handmade pieces that span generations. These textures hold an emotional weight that becomes part of each work. I’ve uploaded more detailed images here for those who love getting close to the surfaces and edges.
The sculpture bench has also been alive with its own quiet transformations. Rusted fabrics, metal forms, and relic-like objects keep appearing in ways I didn’t quite expect. There’s a sense of mystery in these pieces — almost as though they’re uncovering something ancient while still sitting firmly in the present. This small emerging series will continue unfolding into next year.
