France, Versailles Chateau. Architecture & Old textiles

After watching the excitement of the recent Tour De France race, it reminded me of the many times I have visited France, especially Paris. I love the architecture, the buildings and palaces with gold everywhere.

Château of Versailles is one of my favourite places. Walking through the hundreds of rooms at Château of Versailles, I couldn’t help but notice, the old, stuffy smell and the sound of squeaky, footsteps upon the ancient floors and made a sound video’s and took close up shots of the wallpapers, patterns and other surfaces.

Since returning from France, I haven’t forgotten the over the top extravagance of Château of Versailles and over the years have continued making artworks linking to the place.

Creaky Versailles series…

Finding old Textiles at Markets

During one trip to Paris, I immersed myself in the vibrant atmosphere of the local markets, where I uncovered a treasure trove of vintage textiles. One particular day, I stumbled upon a box brimming with vintage dance fabric, beads and glitter. Inspired by the colors and textures, I created a series of unique vintage wrist cuffs and wall artworks. Each piece told a story that encapsulated the essence of French bohemian flair. I also incorporated these lovely finds into collages, merging the old with the new. Every piece of vintage fabric holds a world of possibilities.

Creative Tip…

Altered Vintage Postcards & Small Paper Collages.

Whenever I find myself in a creative slump, I reach for my treasured collection of vintage postcards I've amassed over the years. There's something incredibly liberating about tearing, cutting, and pasting found papers together, allowing my imagination to run wild without the burden of perfection. I name these little pieces “postacards.” The magical interplay of unrelated images invites another narrative - unfolding into something else I could never have envisioned beforehand. So, the next time you feel stuck, consider diving into your own pile of old postcards and let spontaneity guide your hand; you might be amazed at the new stories that emerge!

  1. D’arc Time Capsule. A time- machine embeded in an underground chamber.

  2. Postcards collected from all over the world.

  3. 3 Ominous Figures. Are they guardians or threatening invaders.
